Charles “Chuck” Siver, PGA Golf Professional, Instructor

My name is Charles “Chuck” Siver. I’m an original Oregonian, born and raised in Albany, Oregon which is about forty-five miles south of Woodburn, just off Interstate-5. I graduated from Albany Union High School in 1956 where I played on the Golf Team for four years. Then went on to attend the University of Oregon where I also played on the Golf Team for three years. In my Junior year, our team finished fourth in the NCAA Golf Championship which was held at the Eugene Country Club.

I then went on to spend two years in the Army where I was very fortunate to be stationed at Fort Sam Houston Army base, in San Antonio Texas. There I worked the Pro Shop of the Fort Sam Houston Golf Course. That is where I started my career as a Golf Professional.

After returning home from the army in June of 1963 I received a phone call from the head golf professional at San Antonio Country Club asking me if I would like to go to work for him as an Assistant Golf Professional. Why not? I was young, had nothing else to do…so I went to work for him. Who would have guessed that I would spend the next twenty-seven years there working my way to the Head Golf Professional position.

In 1990 I returned to Oregon, ready for a change. In June of that year, I took a job as an Assistant Golf Professional at the O.G.A. Golf Course in Woodburn and worked there for the next 3 years. In the spring of 1994, I became the Head Golf Professional at the O.G.A. where I stayed until retirement in 2008.

Retirement was not my “cup of tea” so after a year and a half I came to work at Woodburn Estates & Golf as part-time help in the Pro-Shop. In June of 2011, I took the position of Head Golf Professional. Here we are in 2017 and I cannot tell you how much I love the job! It is not often that one finds the work he loves and the opportunity to do it every day. small business award winners at the Portland Open in North Plains, Oregon. Photo by Randy L. Rasmussen for
